ACHOOOOOO!

Hi. It's Chance. This week we didn't bring home a dog. I have a little cold. So do Alex, Brenda, and Jasmine, the cats. See ya next week. ACHOOOOOOOOOO!

Pets of the week!!

Dog of the Week ~ Shep

Shep (Photo: Artis Photography)

Shep is a handsome young dog who has come to Homeward Pet in search of a better life. After being kept by animal hoarders, he's looking for a safe and secure home where he can be the center of attention.

Shep is about 18 months old, and he's looking for someone who can help him grow socially so he can feel comfortable around new people and in new situations. He has not been exposed to children before, so he's looking to be placed with older teenagers and adults. Sixty-one pound Shep is very fond of women, but needs to take things slowly to develop trusting relationships with men. He is eager to please, and we can tell that he has an inner desire to love everyone.

Shep can be good with other dogs if he's allowed to slowly adjust and acclimate. He's known to be a cat chaser, so his compatibility with felines is in question. Shep is a dog with limitless potential. All he needs is to find an understanding and patient person to show him the way. If that's you, he'd love to meet you!

Email dogs@homewardpet.org if you have questions, or come visit the shelter to see Shep in person!

Dog of the Week ~ Cowboy

Cowboy (Photo: Artis Photography)

Cowboy is a handsome nine year-old dog who sports a beautiful long black coat. He was previously living at an Eastern Washington sanctuary, but found himself needing a new home after a building there was destroyed by fire. Now he's excited to be at Homeward Pet, warm and safe, with a renewed hope for finding his forever home.

Cowboy is a personable and gentle boy who tips the scales at 89 pounds. Needing to lose about 20 of those pounds, he's looking forward to meeting someone who will provide him with daily exercise and a healthy and regulated diet. As a youngster, Cowboy was attacked by a cougar and lost one of his legs. He enjoys walking just as much as any other dog, and being a tripod doesn't seem to slow him down a bit. Slippery floors and flights of stairs are harder for him to navigate, so he would appreciate a single story home with carpet or runners for traction.

Cowboy enjoys the company of other dogs and cats, and would be best suited for kids who are over 12 years old. He prefers children who are old enough or understand that he likes to be treated gently and respectfully. A favorite of staff and volunteers alike, Cowboy will be a fantastic addition to a happy home! He absolutely loves people and he's ready to assume his role as the family dog. He has wonderful house manners, a quiet disposition, and is easy to care for in general. He's one of a kind and very special!

The “Scratching” Post

This week I did my first cat interview.   Every week I will interview someone at the shelter about one cat.  This post will be called The “Scratching” post.  This week I did my interview on Tulip.  She is a red tabby.  Nancy, the person I interviewed, said that female red tabbies are rare.  Part of the time at Homeward Pet Nancy works as the volunteer coordinator, and part of the time she's an adoption counselor.

Nancy told me that Tulip has irritable bowel syndrome.   I don’t exactly understand what it is but I know that she is a-ok when she has her medicine.  Nancy said “She is going to be a medical needs[adoption], and we actually are just looking for a home that would take her in for a hospice foster. Which means that they would care for her, feed her, give her a home, love her, but we would still be the ones responsible for her, so we would take care of her medical needs. As far as medical for her right now, when she’s not feeling sick, she has to come in once a month for a shot, and that can be expensive if you were to adopt her so that’s why we’re looking for many different options for her. She's ready to be in a home.”

According to Nancy, Tulip “has a lot of people personalities”. Tulip was the clinic cat for awhile so she got to roam around the clinic, but she got upset when other cats where complaining during procedures. She doesn’t like cats and she thinks she is a dog!!!  Ha Ha!  She needs to go to a home without cats and would love a home with dogs.  I hope she gets adopted soon. She is eight years old and has been at the shelter almost TWO WHOLE YEARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Isn't Tulip adorable? See ya next week!

Chance Encounters

Chance_Encounters
This week a beautiful girl dog named Bobbie Jo came home.  She is 5 years old and very playful.  I love her.  Bobbie Jo likes running in the snow.  When we play wrestle she always wins, its so fun.  When I came out to meet the dog my owners brought home I was expecting Cowboy (they would have taken him but he couldn’t get in the pickup truck), so I was surprised to see such a pretty girl dog. We hit it off right from the start.  Here's a pic.Bobby joe 2
Didn’t I tell you she was beautiful.  She is so sweet, also she's really smart.  I thinks she’s only talked to one of the cats once and the only reason was because it attacked her.  My owner showed me this great picture of her.
Bobby joe
I know, right?  She's so cute and nice.  I think I'm in love.  She is even house trained!  Oh, I’ve got to go on a walk with her now! Don’t forget to check Chance Encounters next week.  Bye!

Check out the new cat of the week! Serena was adopted!

Cat of the Week ~ Brittney

Brittney (Photo: Artis Photography)

Brittney's story will break your heart. Her loving owner was in final stages of cancer and was unable to care for her any longer. At a time when she probably needed the comfort of her cat the most, the owner had to say goodbye to her sweet Siamese kitty.

Unfortunately, she was surrendered to a shelter in eastern Washington which experienced a bad fire in their wood stove two weeks prior. Brittney lived in a building without heat until she was transferred to Homeward Pet. This blue-eyed seven year-old was a little 'shell shocked' when she first arrived but soon was soliciting attention from everyone. This sweet kitty deserves a wonderful new chapter to her life and we are hoping just the right person will come in and provide that for her.

Email cats@homewardpet.org if you have questions, or come visit the shelter to see Brittney in person!

Homeward Pet ~ PETS OF THE WEEK!

Cat of the Week ~ Serena

Serena (Photo: Artis Photography)

Serena is a 3 year-old mommy cat that was transferred to Homeward Pet from another shelter. This black and white tuxedo kitty had been there for awhile because not too many people were visiting, so they asked if we could help her.

The first thing we did was spay Serena, as Washington has a very serious feline overpopulation problem. After having her surgery Serena was a quiet kitty who pretty much kept to herself for a couple of weeks. Now that she is feeling like a kid (or kitten) again, look out, this kitty is all about having a fun time. She loves to play and is happy to be on her own again! She is currently living in The Douceur Cat Colony here with other cats and gets along great with them. This lovely gal would fit into most households and will give you hours of live entertainment.

Email cats@homewardpet.org if you have questions, or come visit the shelter to see Serena in person!

Dog of the Week ~ Megs

Megs (Photo: Artis Photography)

Megs is a playful young dog who was found as a stray in the Everett area. After her owners could not be found, she came to Homeward Pet for a second chance at finding a home. Megs is an eight month old adolescent who is very curious about the world around her, and she’s eager to explore. She weighs 48 pounds and is growing fast. Now is the time for her new owner to enroll her in training classes, included with every adoption from Homeward Pet, which will help her develop into a well rounded adult. She’s extremely intelligent and she learns very quickly, so the sky is the limit for her.

Megs is a high energy dog that will need plenty of daily exercise and a fenced yard. She also needs to stay busy and engaged to remain happy and satisfied. Some house training work and slow introductions to new dogs may be necessary. She hasn't been around cats before, and would be best suited for kids over eight years old who are sturdy enough to handle her rambunctious nature. Megs has great potential and she'll be a fantastic dog for someone who is willing to provide her with structure and guidance. This active and outgoing sweetheart is ready to settle in and love to her heart’s content. All she needs is a chance to prove herself to some lucky person.

Some of the dogs we have fostered…

This is Stella, a lovable snuggelable bundle of fun.

This handsome pup is Magnus, cute funny and awesome. He got adopted by a GREAT family we know!

This beauty is Trudy, she loves being snuggled pet and loved.

Scrappy is a nearly blind, deaf dog that just makes you love him.

Rudy is a very cute, snuggly pup that loves to burrow under the covers. He had no fur on his tummy at all! Check out the update on Rudy's new life here.

Now you're caught up on some of the dogs we've fostered. We didn't get good pics of the other ones, boo.

All of these dogs have been adopted so you won’t see them in the shelter.

Make sure to check my blog  next week to see what foster pup comes home with us on Sunday.

Chance Encounter

Hi. Im Chance, Abigail's dog. I write Chance Encounter, where every week I tell you about the dog that comes home with our family on kennel break. This week my owners brought home Cowboy (A.K.A. my new best bud :-)). He looks very similar to me but is three legged. Cowboy is a bit bigger than me. He and I share common intrests such as pawing people untill they pet us. BOY, is he strong, I love watching hin throw my owners hands with his nose. It's SOOOOO funny! I also like it when he licks Abigail's face. The other day he told me what happened to his leg. He got attacked by a couger when he was a young dog! Cowboy said the couger ran off with it's tail between its leg. I've never met a braver dog. His jokes are awesome. Heres a joke; if an athlete gets athletes foot, what does santa get? MISTLE TOE!!! Cats dont seem to bother him. I asked him why, apparently he thinks if you don't bother a cat they won't bother you. I wonder if thats true... Cowboy is so loveable, he was my best bud the night I met him. He knows some really good stories. I'm sad he's leaving tomorrow. :-(

Hello!!!

Hi. My name is Abigail. I'm 11 years old and I love animals. I live in California with my mom, dad, and sister. We just stopped fostering dogs from Homeward Pet Adoption Center, a no kill shelter because we moved. We used to take them for a "kennel break", where we bring a dog home to let it have a few days out of the shelter.  We have our own dog, and 3 cats. I started this blog to tell you about my "tails", I hope you like them.
