Pets of the week!!

Dog of the Week ~ Shep

Shep (Photo: Artis Photography)

Shep is a handsome young dog who has come to Homeward Pet in search of a better life. After being kept by animal hoarders, he's looking for a safe and secure home where he can be the center of attention.

Shep is about 18 months old, and he's looking for someone who can help him grow socially so he can feel comfortable around new people and in new situations. He has not been exposed to children before, so he's looking to be placed with older teenagers and adults. Sixty-one pound Shep is very fond of women, but needs to take things slowly to develop trusting relationships with men. He is eager to please, and we can tell that he has an inner desire to love everyone.

Shep can be good with other dogs if he's allowed to slowly adjust and acclimate. He's known to be a cat chaser, so his compatibility with felines is in question. Shep is a dog with limitless potential. All he needs is to find an understanding and patient person to show him the way. If that's you, he'd love to meet you!

Email dogs@homewardpet.org if you have questions, or come visit the shelter to see Shep in person!

Dog of the Week ~ Cowboy

Cowboy (Photo: Artis Photography)

Cowboy is a handsome nine year-old dog who sports a beautiful long black coat. He was previously living at an Eastern Washington sanctuary, but found himself needing a new home after a building there was destroyed by fire. Now he's excited to be at Homeward Pet, warm and safe, with a renewed hope for finding his forever home.

Cowboy is a personable and gentle boy who tips the scales at 89 pounds. Needing to lose about 20 of those pounds, he's looking forward to meeting someone who will provide him with daily exercise and a healthy and regulated diet. As a youngster, Cowboy was attacked by a cougar and lost one of his legs. He enjoys walking just as much as any other dog, and being a tripod doesn't seem to slow him down a bit. Slippery floors and flights of stairs are harder for him to navigate, so he would appreciate a single story home with carpet or runners for traction.

Cowboy enjoys the company of other dogs and cats, and would be best suited for kids who are over 12 years old. He prefers children who are old enough or understand that he likes to be treated gently and respectfully. A favorite of staff and volunteers alike, Cowboy will be a fantastic addition to a happy home! He absolutely loves people and he's ready to assume his role as the family dog. He has wonderful house manners, a quiet disposition, and is easy to care for in general. He's one of a kind and very special!

  1. You should add a link to Cowboy's meeting with Chance! Then people can learn ever more about him and what a good dog he is :)
