I'm back!!!! :)

Hey! I am really sorry that I haven't posted at all recently, but I had a lot going on. Recently( as in 14 weeks ago) I moved to California! I am loving it. I had been very busy with packing, and unpacking so I haven't had time to post. In Tech we will have a free time to do anything we wanted that was Technology related! I decided to use that time to blog again. Sadly I might have to create all new columns. The first grade dogolog will have to go. I am not sure about the rest, but I am trying to see if I can find a way to keep them. I promise I will post more often. :)

Chance Encounters - UPDATE!!!!

Chance_Encounters
AAAAOOOOWWW yeah!  Doggies in the house.  Ok.  But enough celebrating.  Lets get to  the pup talk.  This week some cutie pups came.  They're a little shy of me, but from dogservation (man I'm good at dog jokes) I saw that they are totally snuggleable and, I think, adorable.  Their names are Chico and Stella. Stella’s two years old and sooo tiny.  Chico is ten months and an adventurous pup.   They are both Chihuahuas.   Chico looks like a fox and Stella has one ear flopping over one standing up.  She is so cute.   I really like them.  I will put up pics when I have some good ones.

Here are those pics I promised!!!!

SOOO BORED.

Hi, Chance here. I AM BORED OUT OF MY MIND!!!! I am no longer sneezing so I can get a kennel cough vaccination on Thursday.  Believe me, I'm not happy about it. The only good thing is soon a dog can come over. Chance,  over and out.

PETS OF THE WEEK!!!!!

Pearl

Pearl (Photo: Artis Photography)

Pearl is one big bundle of energy- there just aren't enough toys at Homeward Pet for her to play with. If we didn't know better, we would swear she was a little kitten. Pearl is all grey and a little over a year old. She has beautiful soft fur that begs to be touched. She enjoys some touching and will let you know when you are dismissed!

Pearl likes to be with her humans and can often be found wrapped around your feet when you are walking. This spirited gal would be best as an only cat and is recommended for an experienced cat owner. You won't want to ever watch television again as Pearl will be live entertainment for you!

Email cats@homewardpet.org if you have questions, or come visit the shelter to see Pearl in person!

Hunter

Hunter (Photo: Artis Photography)

Hunter is a personable eight year-old dog at Homeward Pet, who is looking for a special home. This handsome fellow is seeking the right living situation that has eluded him for so long. Like so many unfortunate animals, he was mistreated as a younger dog, so he needs an experienced owner who will understand that he's not comfortable in some social situations. Hunter is a wonderful dog who is seeking another chance to win someone over. He's quite the charmer, so he knows it only a matter of time.

Hunter is looking for an owner who will provide him with a quiet home environment. Busy households with lots of visitors make him uncomfortable and aren't for him. He requires an adult only home, and is not a good match for children or households with child visitors. Hunter is good with cats, and while he doesn't have much life experience with other dogs, he might be open to sharing a home with the right canine companion. Prior dog experience and knowledge of the Cocker Spaniel breed will be required of all potential adopters.

Hunter is a smart dog who knows several commands. He is crate trained, house trained, and possesses great all-around house manners. He loves to snuggle with his people and enjoys playing, especially with his cherished whiffle balls. Hunter weighs 30 pounds and sports a beautiful, soft coat.

Email dogs@homewardpet.org if you have questions, or come visit the shelter to see Hunter in person!

The “Scratching” Post

This week I interviewed Erin about Garbo. Isn't Garbo a cute name?  Erin is an adoption counselor, as well as the dog foster care coordinator.  She also work with cats.  Garbo is three and a half years old, and still very adorable.  She came to Homeward first on November 17, 2008.  Her first name was Gizmo.  She was adopted and then brought back because she was setting off the people’s house alarm. Why didn’t they fix the alarm???? Sad smile  Then she was adopted for a couple of years but had to be returned because the people’s son had medical problems.  How sad.  She was last  returned September 8, 2011.  Garbo is very sweet and loves to be pet, she doesn’t like cats but is fine with dogs.  She loves to be snuggled and to play, and she has the cutest little face. Really look at it!!!!!!! Red heart

ACHOOOOOO!

Hi. It's Chance. This week we didn't bring home a dog. I have a little cold. So do Alex, Brenda, and Jasmine, the cats. See ya next week. ACHOOOOOOOOOO!

Pets of the week!!

Dog of the Week ~ Shep

Shep (Photo: Artis Photography)

Shep is a handsome young dog who has come to Homeward Pet in search of a better life. After being kept by animal hoarders, he's looking for a safe and secure home where he can be the center of attention.

Shep is about 18 months old, and he's looking for someone who can help him grow socially so he can feel comfortable around new people and in new situations. He has not been exposed to children before, so he's looking to be placed with older teenagers and adults. Sixty-one pound Shep is very fond of women, but needs to take things slowly to develop trusting relationships with men. He is eager to please, and we can tell that he has an inner desire to love everyone.

Shep can be good with other dogs if he's allowed to slowly adjust and acclimate. He's known to be a cat chaser, so his compatibility with felines is in question. Shep is a dog with limitless potential. All he needs is to find an understanding and patient person to show him the way. If that's you, he'd love to meet you!

Email dogs@homewardpet.org if you have questions, or come visit the shelter to see Shep in person!

Dog of the Week ~ Cowboy

Cowboy (Photo: Artis Photography)

Cowboy is a handsome nine year-old dog who sports a beautiful long black coat. He was previously living at an Eastern Washington sanctuary, but found himself needing a new home after a building there was destroyed by fire. Now he's excited to be at Homeward Pet, warm and safe, with a renewed hope for finding his forever home.

Cowboy is a personable and gentle boy who tips the scales at 89 pounds. Needing to lose about 20 of those pounds, he's looking forward to meeting someone who will provide him with daily exercise and a healthy and regulated diet. As a youngster, Cowboy was attacked by a cougar and lost one of his legs. He enjoys walking just as much as any other dog, and being a tripod doesn't seem to slow him down a bit. Slippery floors and flights of stairs are harder for him to navigate, so he would appreciate a single story home with carpet or runners for traction.

Cowboy enjoys the company of other dogs and cats, and would be best suited for kids who are over 12 years old. He prefers children who are old enough or understand that he likes to be treated gently and respectfully. A favorite of staff and volunteers alike, Cowboy will be a fantastic addition to a happy home! He absolutely loves people and he's ready to assume his role as the family dog. He has wonderful house manners, a quiet disposition, and is easy to care for in general. He's one of a kind and very special!

The “Scratching” Post

This week I did my first cat interview.   Every week I will interview someone at the shelter about one cat.  This post will be called The “Scratching” post.  This week I did my interview on Tulip.  She is a red tabby.  Nancy, the person I interviewed, said that female red tabbies are rare.  Part of the time at Homeward Pet Nancy works as the volunteer coordinator, and part of the time she's an adoption counselor.

Nancy told me that Tulip has irritable bowel syndrome.   I don’t exactly understand what it is but I know that she is a-ok when she has her medicine.  Nancy said “She is going to be a medical needs[adoption], and we actually are just looking for a home that would take her in for a hospice foster. Which means that they would care for her, feed her, give her a home, love her, but we would still be the ones responsible for her, so we would take care of her medical needs. As far as medical for her right now, when she’s not feeling sick, she has to come in once a month for a shot, and that can be expensive if you were to adopt her so that’s why we’re looking for many different options for her. She's ready to be in a home.”
  DSC03737
According to Nancy, Tulip “has a lot of people personalities”. Tulip was the clinic cat for awhile so she got to roam around the clinic, but she got upset when other cats where complaining during procedures. She doesn’t like cats and she thinks she is a dog!!!  Ha Ha!  She needs to go to a home without cats and would love a home with dogs.  I hope she gets adopted soon. She is eight years old and has been at the shelter almost TWO WHOLE YEARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Chance Encounters

Chance_Encounters
This week a beautiful girl dog named Bobbie Jo came home.  She is 5 years old and very playful.  I love her.  Bobbie Jo likes running in the snow.  When we play wrestle she always wins, its so fun.  When I came out to meet the dog my owners brought home I was expecting Cowboy (they would have taken him but he couldn’t get in the pickup truck), so I was surprised to see such a pretty girl dog. We hit it off right from the start.  Here's a pic.Bobby joe 2
Didn’t I tell you she was beautiful.  She is so sweet, also she's really smart.  I thinks she’s only talked to one of the cats once and the only reason was because it attacked her.  My owner showed me this great picture of her.
Bobby joe
I know, right?  She's so cute and nice.  I think I'm in love.  She is even house trained!  Oh, I’ve got to go on a walk with her now! Don’t forget to check Chance Encounters next week.  Bye!
